Social Norms: How Society Views Women

Posted by Joleen Vincent

I am working on a series of 5 images that portray the way women are viewed and judged by society. A BIG thank you to my lovely model for helping me with this project.

Please ignore technical issues like the shadow and color correction, all images are unedited.

The Perfect Housekeeper... I'm not sure if I am going to use these images for this project or not... the photos are unedited, just a black and white mask.

PIN UP GIRL SHOOT

Posted by Joleen Vincent

My very first attempt at a 1950's inspired photo shoot. I used a single flash and natural lighting and lots of Photoshop. I need my own studio!

Presenting myself to the world..

Posted by Joleen Vincent

I am learning so many great techniques this semester for presenting my work via print and web. Photoshop is an amazing tool and I am always learning something new. I'm slowly putting together a print portfolio for job interviews, here is the cover page I made for the collection.

Midterms

Posted by Joleen Vincent

I know I haven’t posted in a long time. I guess I have been feeling rather uninspired lately. I finished my summer classes on a strong note, earning an A- in my studio lighting class.

Then the Fall semester started…and for some reason I have been in denial these last 7 or 8 weeks… pretending I don’t have homework to do or classes to go to. I think some of it has to do with my life changing in so many ways, a new job for my boyfriend, a new apartment. I guess at some point I forgot where the focus should be…on me and on my studies. I was working part-time at an art store, but I spoke with my manager last week about removing me from the schedule temporarily. I love my job. I get to hang out with people I love, frame artwork and talk about art. I already miss it… but the truth was that it was starting to get overwhelming. My manager is a great person, who agreed to “keep me on” this semester even though I will not be working. I’ve agreed to be available for emergencies and I will of course work during the Christmas season, since I have a month long break from school. I’m very happy with the arrangement.

I had a month and half to complete “midterm” photo projects for my Intermediate Digital Imaging AND Documentary Photo classes. I started both projects…. 3 days before they were due. Yes… I did it all in 3 days. This last week has been hard on me, and I deserve it. Procrastination was a bad habit… that I thought I was over already. I have no idea why I actually choose to make things harder on myself, why I choose to put the added stress on my shoulders. I have made a decision to NOT do this to myself anymore!

I happy to report back that both my projects were turned in on time and both projects are at least B quality. I of course will report back the actual grade and comments received for my work…

Documentary Photography: The Roving Eye

Titled: Trashy Neighbors

Purpose: To utilize that idea of a portable camera, while documenting something. I choose to document the trash that I found while walking to/from school. The idea is that the trash will lend clues about what kind of people my neighbors might be.

Intermediate Digital Imaging (Photoshop)

Assignment: Select an digitally constructed ad from a magazine and replicate the ad and the Photoshop techniques used.

Final Submission for artifical lighting

Posted by Joleen Vincent

Wow. This was a super intense six week class and I think I got about 20 good images, with some being better than others. These are the 8 images I printed for the last submission. I very much enjoyed this class and I can image having a career in commercial photography.
